Description
The Miniature Schnauzer is a small, compact dog with a long head, bushy beard, long mustache and thick eyebrows. They are squarely-proportioned with a docked tail.


Size
The Miniature Schnauzer is about 12-14 inches tall and weighs 10-15 pounds.


Coat
This breed has a double coat, with a hard, wiry, outer coat and close undercoat.


Color
The standard colors of the Miniature Schnauzer are black, black & silver, and salt & pepper.


Temperament
The Miniature Schnauzer is an energetic, loving dog that is intelligent and playful. They are affecionate, obedient and alert. They can also be feisty and dog-aggressive.


Care
Care should be taken with the wirey coat to prevent matting. Brush or comb the coat with a wire brush daily and clip out any knots.


Exercise
The Miniature Schnauzer is an energetic little dog that needs long, brisk, daily walks. A large fenced in play area is also advised for this breeds exercise requirements.


Training
Socialize this breed well with other dogs when it is still a puppy and it may tolerate other dogs at an older age. This breed is intelligent so training is not difficult. They make good guard dogs.


Shedding
This breed sheds little to no hair and is a good dog for allergy sufferers.


Barking & Howling
This dog breed barks a lot and can be a good watch dog.


Life Expectancy
A well cared for Miniature Schnauzer can live around 15 years.


Health
In general, the Miniature Schnauzer is a healthy dog, but some can be prone to kidney stones, liver disease, skin disorders. They also can have eye problems.
